Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026

1. Introduction

ZAWA SYSTEM, the operator of ImaMeshi ("the App"), respects your privacy. The App is a mobile application that recommends "what to eat now" from restaurants, chain eateries, and convenience stores near your current location, designed primarily for solo diners who frequently eat out. It provides rule-based recommendations using location, preferences, and meal history; AI-powered (Gemini grounding) brand-product information; and OpenStreetMap-based map display in shop details. This Policy explains how the App handles personal information.

2. Account Information

The App uses Firebase Authentication and signs you in anonymously at first launch. The following information is recorded on the operator's servers as a result of anonymous sign-in:

You may optionally sign in with an Apple account or a Google account and link those credentials to your anonymous account. After linking, the following additional information is recorded:

The Operator does not directly obtain or retain passwords or other authentication credentials.

3. Information Handled by the App

The App collects and uses the following information to provide and improve the service. We list separately the data sent to the operator's servers and the data that is processed entirely on your device.

Stored on the operator's servers (Firebase)

Shop information (shop name, address, coordinates, hours, etc.) fetched from the HotPepper Gourmet Search API and OpenStreetMap may be cached on the server as a shared cache to reduce API calls; such data does not personally identify any user. Likewise, AI-generated brand-product information is stored as a shared cache per brand (see Section 5).

Processed only on your device (not transmitted to the operator's servers)

Transmitted to a third party (Google AdMob) for ad delivery (Free plan only)

4. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

5. Data Processing in AI Features

On the shop detail screen, the App uses AI to fetch and display new, limited-time, seasonal, and signature products of the brand to which the shop belongs (e.g., Matsuya, Yoshinoya, 7-Eleven). The feature works as follows:

The feature does NOT send information that directly identifies the user, such as name, email address, location, or meal history, to Vertex AI. Gemini on Vertex AI is governed by Google Cloud's data governance policy: Google Cloud does not use customer data submitted from the App to train its generative AI models. The relationship between the Operator and Google Cloud is subject to Google Cloud's Data Processing Addendum (DPA).

AI-generated content is provided for reference only and we do not warrant its currency, accuracy, or completeness. Please confirm actual availability and prices at each shop.

6. Shop Data Retrieval from External APIs

Via Cloud Functions (fetchRecommendation), the App retrieves shop data from the following external APIs. These APIs receive request parameters such as latitude, longitude, and radius, but no direct identifiers (user ID, name, email address) are sent.

Data sourced from OpenStreetMap is provided under ODbL with attribution to © OpenStreetMap contributors. We display this attribution both within the App and on this site.

7. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

Please review each service's privacy policy.

8. Cross-Border Data Transfers

Through the third-party services listed in Section 7, user data may be provided to the following third parties located outside Japan:

For information on the personal data protection regimes of the United States and the United Kingdom, please refer to the materials published by Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission (https://www.ppc.go.jp/personalinfo/legal/kaiseihogohou/). Each recipient handles personal data at a level equivalent to the requirements of Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), based on its respective privacy policy and applicable contractual safeguards such as standard contractual clauses (SCC).

9. Security Measures

The Operator takes the following measures to prevent leakage, loss, or damage of personal information and to maintain appropriate security:

10. Data Storage and Deletion

11. Location Data

The App uses location data to search for nearby shops. Location is accessed only while the App is in the foreground; the App does not collect or continuously track location in the background. The location itself is not stored in Firestore or any other database; it is used only as a request parameter to Cloud Functions when fetching recommendations. If you deny location permission, the recommendation feature is unavailable, but other features (meal logs, favorites, settings, etc.) remain fully usable.

12. Children's Privacy

The App is not primarily intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Minors aged 13 or older but under 18 should use the App only with the consent of their parent or legal guardian. If we learn that a user is under 13, we will promptly delete that user's personal information.

13. Cookies

The App (the mobile application) does not use cookies. Web sites associated with the App (including this page and the landing page) likewise do not use cookies in principle and do not set any cookies for analytics or advertising tracking. Cookies that are operationally required by infrastructure services such as Firebase Hosting may occasionally be issued.

14. Advertising and App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

The App displays advertisements provided by Google AdMob (banner ads and in-feed native ads) to Free plan users. On iOS, if the App accesses the advertising identifier (IDFA), an App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt is shown the first time you launch the App. You may decline; all features remain fully usable, but ads may be less personalized. Consent for advertising is obtained and managed via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). No advertisements are shown when you subscribe to the Pro plan.

In addition, recommendation results on the Free plan include restaurant data sourced from the HotPepper Gourmet Search API, which is a commercially licensed data source. Such results are labeled with a "PR" indicator. If we introduce affiliate links in the future (for example, "Visit official site" on the shop detail screen), we will clearly indicate the relevant locations and labels in this Policy, the Terms of Use, and in-app disclosures.

15. Profiling and Automated Decision-Making

The App's recommendation feature automatically computes a variety score to help prevent dietary bias—based on your settings (preferred genres, shop types, budgets, disliked ingredients, etc.), your favorite shops, and your meal history—and generates recommendations (including "Today's pick: this one shop"). These recommendations present candidate restaurants, chain eateries, and convenience stores, and do not produce legal effects, or similarly significant effects, concerning you. If you wish to stop or adjust such processing, you can change your profile (preferences, budgets, disliked ingredients, etc.) in the Settings screen, delete your meal history, or delete your account.

16. Your Rights (Disclosure, Correction, Suspension of Use)

Under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), you may request notification of the purpose of use, disclosure, correction, addition or deletion of content, suspension of use or erasure, and suspension of third-party provision of retained personal data held by the Operator.

Please submit your request to the contact email below. The Operator will verify that the requester is the data subject or their authorized representative by reasonable means, and will respond promptly in accordance with the APPI and other applicable laws.

Major data such as profile, meal history, favorites, and monthly summary can be reviewed at any time within the App. You can also delete data on the operator's servers yourself using the "Delete account" feature in the Settings screen. For information collected by Firebase Analytics and similar services, you may need to use the opt-out mechanisms provided by the respective service providers (e.g., Google account ad settings, iOS App Tracking Transparency, Android advertising ID reset).

17. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated. Material changes will be announced through in-app notification or by updating this page. Changes take effect upon posting on this page.

18. Contact and Complaints
